Sheffield Cricket Lovers Society Xmas Lunch
A lovely comment from a satisfied new listener at the above event which contained the father and grandfather of two England captains – Michael Vaughan and Joe Root.
“Today was a super event. The meal was really good, and served courteously and pretty quickly. As for the speaker, I was expecting Simon Hughes to be good, but he was far better than that. An inspiring watcher of the game and a very talented speaker, who unusually played up to high expectations, rather than down to the lowest common denominator. A repeat next year will be one to savour, especially if you can find as good a speaker as Simon Hughes!!
“And he certainly succeeded, Ben-Stokes-like, in reviving my enthusiasm for the game I had to give up at 13 because my eyesight wasn’t good enough, and glasses really were made of glass. (Added to which the optician put in me in the new-fangled bifocals, so the ball jagged around all over the place on its 22 yard path! So always a watcher, never a player. but an enthusiast revived!”
